Pain Science and Recovery Seminar Both Days

Participants who attend the full two-day, 15-hour seminar will complete the basic course on Saturday followed by the advanced session the next day.    

November 6 - Pain Science and Recovery

Pain Science and Recovery is specifically designed for health care professionals to aid with the management of patients with persistent pain. The primary goals are to provide participants with an up-to-date understanding of pain and pain management, and to provide basic practical and effective skills to assist in day-to-day clinical practice regardless of practice setting.

Three primary focuses of treatment will be outlined:

  • effective and proven education techniques
  • self-management techniques to down-regulate the sensitized nervous system
  • specific strategies to recover function in people with persistent pain

November 7 - Advanced Pain Science and Recovery

Course Objectives:

  • Identifying patients requiring more than 'routine' treatment
    • Physical assessment techniques of peripheral and central sensitization
  • Effective use of pain self-report questionnaires to track and improve outcomes
  • Explore the role of manual therapy and modalities
  • Effective 'brief' pain neurophysiology education
  • Teaching breathing techniques
    • For pain management
    • To wind-down sensitization during treatment
  • Teaching clients to attend with broad awareness during recovery exercises
  • Treatment planning and exercise/activity progressions

Coffee and lunch breaks will be incorporated, as snacks and refreshments will be provided during the day. Please note that participants are expected to arrange their own lunch for the two day workshop.
